I’m not crying just the light from the asteroid hitting Earth hurts my eyes
This project is about the ambiguity of humanity’s relation to its own demise. There was an article in early spring, that some researchers simulated that in 2046 an asteroid will hit Earth and finally bring the apocalypse. Later it was confirmed a hoax, but made me think: what if it would happen? What is my relationship to death? With everything going on, every war, every inequality, wouldn’t we deserve a fresh start? My theory is that (like depicted many times before) people will be mostly afraid, but it would cause a great catharsis also. We would finally see the end of it. The real meaning. Maybe we would be finally happy. Researching this project I encountered with the existential psychology of Irvin D. Yalom, and the most famous quote of his became the thesis of this project: Though the physicality of death destroys us, the idea of death may save us. This project was started in 2023 at Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design, Budapest under the supervision of Kriszta Szalay and Máté Bartha, and it is still going on by the research of apocalypse stories.
